Pipes

Yahoo today announced a very interesting service called Pipes:
Pipes is an interactive feed aggregator and manipulator. Using Pipes,
you can create feeds that are more powerful, useful and relevant.

Pipes is a hosted service that lets you remix feeds and create new data
mashups in a visual programming environment. The name of the service
pays tribute to Unix pipes, which let programmers do astonishingly
clever things by making it easy to chain simple utilities together on
the command line.

It is quite complicated to get a pipe running but if you know Unix pipes it’s fairly straightforward.

Update: Here is my first pipe (example RSS searching for AJAX). It searches on Plasser.net for a given text and filters all articles where this text is found in the title and the body.

Update 2: Tim O’Reilly writes about Pipes, as well as one of the developers of the AJAX editor.
