Join the campaign “Christmas in a shoebox” (“Weihnachten im Schuhkarton”) and bring hope to poor children. It is easy to do and brings joy to the world, which is–in my humble opinion–the most significant value on Christmas.

November 5, 2008 Do they have a screw loose?
“Barzahlerentgelt” means something like “charge for paying cash”. So there’s nothing (zero!) to pay but when I pay nothing in cash I’ll have to pay two Euro? Clearly a defect in their accounting.

October 30, 2008 My 7 year old has refused to learn how to knot a shoelace. But now I bought him some real shoes with real shoelaces and so he finally will have to learn the knot. But what is the easiest way to tie a shoelace?
Good to know Ian’s Shoelace Site! Most of us have learned the Standard Knot as a child, but what’s about this much easier knot? Easier? Ok, I’ve tried it, it’s easy, but it needs exercise too. So what?
Maybe this one is an true alternative? ;).

October 30, 2008 Netapp’s Rusty Walther has a nice list on ”What’s your Top 10 list of how employees can provide world class customer support?”. I really like his last point:
It’s a job, and an important part of your life. But there’s more to life than this job. Work hard, fight fair, give it your all, care a lot, listen to your customers, and solve their problems as quickly as you can. But at the end of your work day, go home and kiss your spouse, hug your kids, throw a ball for your dog, and remember that nobody on their death-bed ever wished they’d spent more time at work. Maximize the quality of your time with the people you love, and you’ll arrive at work the next day better prepared for whatever craziness we throw at you.

October 28, 2008 Last weekend I finished one of the biggest parts of work in our new home and so we now have the kitchen and living room almost ready. Just some details are left to do there, like installing lamps and blendings for the floor. And we need new doors…
